Manhattan Triangle Memorial
A tragic and historic event changed the way NYC was planned and built. Prior to all safety regulations in NYC buildings, “The Triangle Waist Factory” in Manhattan experienced a fire where 146 people perished under catastrophic circumstances. From our reflection we perceive that this episode from our history holds a very deep duality of cause and effect. It is a terrible tragedy of exploitation, unconsciousness & injustice; which triggered consciousness, progress and safety regulations As architects our rational approach to this memorial is to catalyze this portion of Manhattan through a message of tragedy and progress. The aim of our design is to materialize the duality of this episode. Our design approach was inspired by the study of the triangle & the vertical axis as spiritual symbols.
